Ok all who are interested in the ride this Saturday, This is a shake down for Idaho, we will be riding a 175 mile route to songdog ranch mostly street. We will camp the night off the bike and return sunday 66 miles in time for mothers day..

If your going on the ride we are meeting at starbucks in fillmore at 9am. if you dont want to ride see you at the campground.

I bought a couple copies of the Butler maps Idaho BDR and they came today. You can look at it on the BDR website, of course (wi8 any recent changes), but this might be nice for tabletop reading on May 8, and at later meetings.

I talked to Jim Reveley about how many people could stay here. The answer was up to 12, based on the fee I already paid, plus up to 20 total at $10/head additional.

John F. has suggested we might open it up to the Club for people who want to come and ride Ballinger that weekend (it's about halfway up the FS access road). So unless there is any objection from the Idaho BDR group that will be testing out their camping gear, I think we should make an announcement at the Club meeting Wednesday night, and post an invitation in a different Forum thread here.

So any objections to more dirtbikes? They might stare at us with our big bikes while we try to set up our teeny tents...

-BTW I just got a waterproof Tusk duffel to lash on top of saddlebags for the trip. It's so waterproof it has an air release valve! I'll be testing that out on May 8.

Songdog Ranch is at 680 Ballinger Cyn rd, off of Hwy 33 in the Cuyama Valley of California.

Ballinger Canyon road is also know as Forest Service Number 9N10. The Ranch it self is east of Highway 33 by 1.5 miles. You will be on the property when you see the wooden split rail fence running along the road. The ranch host lives in the main house near the old wooden windmill on the north side of Ballinger rd. You are invited to stop and visit, but you are welcome to proceed to your camp. To get to the site, continue east up the canyon for about 200 yds past the windmill. On the right (south) there is a dirt road that will take you through the dry creek and up to the top of the 200ft mesa. When you reach the top of this dirt road, it turns around and goes east. this will take you past the Speakeasy Lodge and around to the Songdog Double Site.

if you want to set up a 40 a night camp for 4 we can split it. I don't know who else is going but I'm sure we can work it out.

I left the return open incase we finish early or late. Also we may want to hotel up around one of the lakes near Canada or Oregon....and we may not need to stay in Boise that night either. We can try to make reservations on the fly I think. I will put some ideas together but I think when we are near the end we will have a better idea of our finish and what we want to do. Being mid week should provide more options also.

I'm planning on talking to Jim Reveley at RevPack MC luggage in Ballinger Canyon before we go out. I have a tail trunk on the KLR for street riding, but I want something lower and more crashable for our trip.

-He runs a motorcycle campground there, too, and we might consider one of his group sites for our test ride. I've been camping there since 1983, and he now runs it under HipCamp. Chuchupate campground is a couple of miles up from the Chuchupate Ranger station in Frazier Park. It's also possible to camp farther up Frazier mountain in the Forest. There are lots of spots right off the dirt road, all the way to the top if the gate is open.

We may want to start teaming up now on equipment. I have a big Jet Boil Sumo. That's probably good for 2-4 people. Perhaps someone else has a water filter, for instance.

Thanks for setting that up. My reservations are made the same as yours in Topaz and Boise.

-Note that at the Boise Spectrum the Accessible suite was $129, even though the regular double room was $139.

I don't yet have a roommate, so someone else is also covered.

I suppose we should think about reservations for the return trip, too.

I have made two reservations for our drive to Boise, you guys riding may want to do the same. Half way is topaz. Its a decent place with a restaurant a no brainer. the second is in the Hampton inn Boise spectrum...there is a few restaurants to choose from and a great place to start the next day

WHAT TO BRING!

here are some great ideas and things I have. rocky mountain atv is a great source for stuff....

chair is collapsible,

charger will charge your phone, gopro, whatever you may have for 2 to 3 nights on one charge. It will also jumpstart your bike.

simple cook ware folds and can be stored in your jetboil

jetboil is a complete system that stores inside your bowl for cooking

get a good sleeping pad with a high "R" value

get a good 2 man tent and sleeping bag.

Get the best you can sleeping pad and bag....you do not want to be cold.

This years exciting BDR adventure is IDAHO!

The preliminary start date is July 5th. The 4th is a Sunday so you get family time and the next day we ride. approximately 10 -14 days to complete the trip....4 days travel 2ea there and back, 8-9 on the trail. I'm very exited about this one. Everyone with a 500 or more (650+ recommended) is welcome but you must be self contained, we will be camping and eating off the bike several days in-between restaurants and hotels. Come join us!
