Sequoia National Forest And BLM Lands CLOSED

All roads and trails are closed until further notice for public safety due to heavy flooding, potential flash floods and to prevent creating ruts by driving on roads and trails.

Last week Stewards urged everyone not to ride on the trails until they dry out so as not to tear them up and create ruts that wreck the trails.

Now it is illegal to ride roads or trails and even be on public lands. Please respect the closures to prevent damaging your roads and trails.

There may not be closure signs at all trailheads, but they should not be ridden. These closures may be in effect for a while due to the ground being saturated. Be aware you can be fined up to $5000 and go to jail for 6 months.

Have You Made Calls To Help Prevent Closures?

If you did not make the calls to legislators last week. Please do so now.

ACTION ITEM- Please make three calls to the below legislators who have jurisdiction over Sequoia National Forest lands.
Best to call in the morning Monday through Friday
Congressman Kevin McCarthy 202 225-2915
Congressman Tom McClintock 202 225-2511
House Natural Resource Committee 202-225-2761
Please leave the following message with each staffer-
I am concerned about the Sequoia National Forest violating the objection resolution process. They are stonewalling objections, violating public process which is allowing them to push forward their predetermined plan outcome to the detriment of recreation, forest health, safety and access to our public lands.
I urge the Congressman to begin oversight to turn this around and get the forest service to meet with objectors such as Stewards of the Sequoia to discuss and resolve public objections and have the forest service update their ill conceived Sequoia Forest Plan before they release their Record of Decision.

BACKGROUND-Stewards The Forest Service recently replied to Stewards 1/27/23 complaint about their refusing to discuss and resolve objections submitted by Stewards of the Sequoia and others. Sadly the forest service are continuing to stonewall us, violating public process and allowing them to push forward their Pacific Crest Trail Land Grab harming all other forms of recreation and likely leading to the closure of over 30 miles of motorized trails, as well as not restoring 43,000 acres of motorized recreation opportunity. We urge all Stewards members will take action now
