Sequoia Trails Newsletter January 2026
CRISIS ON NATIONAL FOREST AND PUBLIC LANDS
Recent reports from the Forest Service claim a crisis on public lands due to reduced funding and reduced staff, significantly impacting trail maintenance and public access and closing trails.
However, in Sequoia National Forest at least, that is not the case. No loss of staff. The Sequoia trail crew is actively maintaining trails and Stewards of the Sequoia have been able to keep backcountry trails
fully maintained.
With your support Stewards of the Sequoia have been able to perform 60% of all trail maintenance in the Sequoia National Forest, which has kept far more trails maintained than in many other National Forests. Perhaps
there would be a crisis in Sequoia if not for Stewards advocacy and massive trail work over the past two decades. We are most fortunate to have Stewards of the Sequoia and hope you will donate now to support our work to keep Sequoia trails open and join us
on one of our below 2026 Trail Appreciation Projects to continue maintaining Sequoia trails. We cannot do it without you.
WINTER SPRING TRAIL APPRECIATION DAYS
Your trails are calling. We need your help maintaining Sequoia trails. Consider putting in one day in to help keep your trails from degrading. It is fun and rewarding. Register NOW to help us plan projects better
