Trails
Provide Needed Exercise While Social Distancing
They say “Cabin Fever” is best treated with a heavy dose of recreational ether or, in the absence of that, some fresh air may do. Officials urge people to get dispersed outdoor exercise and Sequoia trails provide
a perfect place.
At a time when recreation trails are needed the Sequoia Forest Service is prohibiting trail maintenance. Sadly many Sequoia trails are overgrown with brush and blocked by downed trees due to Sequoia Kern River District

Petition now to Reinstate Stewards Volunteer Trail Maintenance Agreement
Congressman McCarthy Supports Reinstating Stewards Volunteers
We are most grateful to Congressman McCarthy for his
letter urging the Forest Chief and Regional Forester to help reinstate Stewards of the Sequoia volunteer agreement as quickly as possible and to ensure that our first amendment rights are not violated and that only the performance of Stewards volunteer
trail maintenance be a basis for termination of our volunteer agreement with the Forest Service. It is nice to see elected officials are willing to stand up for volunteerism and common sense.
We are hopeful the Forest Service will follow the Congressman's recommendation.
We need everyone to sign the
petition and send letters of support to show the Forest Service the groundswell of public opinion in favor of reinstating Stewards volunteers. They need to hear from thousands more of you.
Increased Advocacy
Stewards volunteer trail maintenance agreement was terminated by the Forest Service due to their objections to Stewards advocacy work. This has caused Stewards to increase our advocacy efforts and provided Stewards
with a much better platform to object to the inappropriate Forest Service proposed one mile wide PCT Corridor and argue for the legal status of Piute trails, as well as other issues.
Right now it is more important than ever for Stewards to continue our advocacy work to protect your motorized trails and access to your public lands. We hope each of you will renew your support now by
donating to help fund Stewards Trail Preservation Program.
BLM appreciates continued Stewards volunteerism
While the Sequoia Forest prohibits Stewards volunteers from doing much needed trail maintenance the BLM welcomes Stewards continued help on BLM lands, raising further questions about the validity of the Forest Service
terminating Stewards volunteers.
Stewards Seek Increased Sequoia Recreation Access
Under the Dingle Act the Forest Service recently asked for nominations of areas where recreation access to public lands is blocked or restricted by private property owners. Stewards of the Sequoia
submitted nomination to reopens Clear Creek trails as well as to ensure continued access for Whiskey Flat, Tobias and Flynn trails.
