Dual-Sport Rides in the Big Bear Area in September...
Author Last Post

Unhappily the Big Bear camping and riding for a few days starting on Sep 20th is CANCELED. The closure of the San Bernardino National Forest was extended through most of the week, so neither camping nor using the roads in the forest are possible.

I may be trying to put together a few days of riding at Jawbone Canyon and Red Rock State Park in early November instead.

Join us for 3 days of dual-sport riding around Big Bear Monday Sept 20 to Thursday Sept 23! We'll be riding mostly intermediate-difficulty jeep roads - nothing seriously hard like Redondo Ridge (Malcom Smith Trail) or Gold Mountain! But there will be a real diversity of terrain, some with lots of small ruts, steps and rocks. These roads require your bike to be licensed for street use.

Here's the brief schedule

-Monday afternoon: Loop ride out to Green Lake Valley and back, about 35 miles

- Tuesday: The "Advanced Easy" ride from the recent Big Bear Trail Riders dual-sport run (130 miles; pictured)

- Wednesday: We'll talk about this on Tuesday night. Possibilities are a repeat of an earlier ride, maybe in the opposite direction. Or ride out to Lake Arrowhead trails, even Pinnacles OHV area. Or maybe someone else knows of another great route we could try

- Thursday: Drive home, possibly after a short ride in the morning.

We'll be staying at Hanna Flats campground https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/sbnf/recarea/?recid=26239 Camping costs $30/night; less if you have an appropriate pass (the America the Beautiful pass gets you a rate of $15/night). If you have a trailer or big RV, watch the allowable size carefully! I'll be staying in site 18. You can stay somewhere else if you like, or even drive up for the day (no day-use parking at the campground). Expected ride time in the morning is 8-9 am. Bring your own meals. On the rides, we may pack lunches, or stop at a restaurant along the way, so prepare to be flexible.

Join us for the whole event or for any part of it. Here are some videos of previous rides there in the past year so you can get an idea of the trails I like:

Some of the trails may not be suitable for big adventure bikes. I don't ride one so I can't say for sure.
