Stewards Plants Trees After Castle Fire

On May 1st the Forest Service invited Stewards of the Sequoia volunteers to plant trees helping speed reforestation in the Castle Fire burn area.

Eight Stewards volunteers spent the day digging in the parched earth to plant over 100 seedlings along Route 190 just south of Camp Nelson mountainous region.

Sadly it will take many centuries if ever for this forest to recover.

Many thanks to Sequoia National Forest staffers Steven and Wendy for hosting the tree planting and to the Springville Forest Fire Crew for going out and watering the seedlings.

BLM Appreciates Stewards of the Sequoia

The BLM just provided a letter of appreciation for Stewards volunteer work and engagement in travel planning. Stewards continue to work with the BLM on local trails.

The Forest Service has also given numerous awards to Stewards for our volunteer work. Even Kern River District Ranger Al Watson, who wrongfully terminated Stewards volunteers last year, previously gave Stewards an award for volunteerism.

It should also be noted that there is no documentation or letters about any problems or concerns with Stewards volunteer work. This means there is no valid justification for terminating Stewards volunteers. We continue to press the USDA to reinstate Stewards of the Sequoia proven and highly valued volunteers.
